Paris in One Day with kids: A Fun Family-Friendly Itinerary
One day in Paris with kids. Realistic? Yes. But probably not if you arrive with a mental list of every monument to visit and every district to discover. You have your priorities. Children may have slightly different ones. So the challenge is to choose well. What is really worth seeing? Which big Paris icon deserves more than a quick photo? Where can you fit in something fun for the kids? And, most importantly, what kind of plan actually has a chance of working for everyone? So here is our idea of a fun, family-friendly day in Paris that keeps the magic and skips the marathon.
Start with the Eiffel Tower, but don’t let it eat the day
It is hard to start a family day in Paris anywhere else. The Eiffel Tower is the one children have seen in books, films, cartoons and maybe even on a friend’s pyjamas. So yes, begin with it. It gives everyone that instant “we are really in Paris” feeling.
But with only one day in Paris, the clever move is not necessarily to go up. If climbing the Eiffel Tower is the big family dream and you have booked tickets in advance, wonderful. Go early and enjoy the views! Otherwise, seeing the Tower from Trocadéro is already a proper Paris moment, with plenty of space for a great family photo.
The aim here is simple: enjoy the Eiffel Tower without letting it take over the whole day. There is still plenty of Paris ahead.
Make Sightseeing Fun with Les Canards de Paris
Once the Eiffel Tower is checked, there is no need to cross half the city for the next part of the day. We recommend spending the next two hours with… us. Or, more precisely, with Marcel!
Our amphibious bus tour starts close to the Champ de Mars, which makes it an easy next stop when you are trying to make the most of a single day in Paris. We take you through western Paris, passing sights like the Arc de Triomphe and the Champs-Élysées, before doing what buses are not usually expected to do: leaving the road and splashing into the Seine.
Children love it, parents laugh more than they planned to, and everyone gets to discover Paris without spending the whole morning walking from one monument to the next.

Lunch: French Flavours, Fast
You may know that we French people can spend hours over lunch or dinner. We have plenty of excellent places for that, and we fully support this national talent. But a short Paris visit is not the moment to spend half your itinerary discussing sauce, dessert and whether anyone still has room for cheese.
After two hours with Marcel, you should still be around the Champ de Mars area, so head towards Rue Cler for something quick, tasty and local. For an easy sit-down option, Breizh Café Rue Cler is a very good family move: Breton galettes for lunch, a real French flavour without the three-hour restaurant commitment.
If everyone would rather keep things flexible, build your own Rue Cler picnic instead: baguette, cheese, quiche, fruit, and a little pastry for morale. For something sweet, Pralus is a lovely stop. It is not originally from Paris, but its famous praline brioche is dangerously delicious.
Step Inside Notre-Dame : The One Landmark to Visit
It is time to head towards the historic heart of Paris: Île de la Cité. With a single day in Paris, you do not want every stop to be something you admire from the outside before moving on to the next photo. At some point, it is worth stepping inside one major landmark properly. Notre-Dame fits that role beautifully.
It is central, impressive and much easier to fit into the day than a long museum visit like the Louvre. Even children who were not especially campaigning for “a cathedral visit” may look up for a while. We take these victories.

Louvre and Tuileries: Big Paris, No Museum Marathon
From Notre-Dame, head towards the Louvre. Going inside? With children in tow and a full day already underway, maybe not. The Louvre is wonderful, of course, but it is also enormous. Once you go in, you do not just “pop in quickly”. The Louvre does not really do quickly.
Still, you do not have to miss it. The courtyard, the glass pyramid, the palace façades… that is already quite a thing. Then continue into the Tuileries Garden next door. It once belonged to the royal palace world, so you are still very much in historic Paris. There are wide paths, chairs around the ponds, space to slow down, and enough room for children to burn off a little energy after behaving beautifully (or almost) inside Notre-Dame.
Evening if You Have One Night in Paris Too
If your day in Paris comes with one night in the city too, lucky you. The main sightseeing is done, the children have hopefully not resigned from the family, and you can choose your ending depending on everyone’s mood and energy.
Option one: finally sit down for that very French brasserie dinner. Nothing too fancy, just something generous and comforting after a full day out: confit de canard, bœuf bourguignon, blanquette de veau, roast chicken with purée, onion soup, gratin dauphinois, followed by a crème brûlée, tarte tatin or mousse au chocolat if everyone has behaved well enough to deserve dessert.
Option two: if you feel you have not seen enough of the city yet, go for a Seine river cruise at night. Paris from the water, with the lights on, is always a good idea. An apéro cruise can be even better for parents, while children get the pleasure of resting their legs without leaving the adventure completely. Everyone keeps sightseeing, nobody has to march heroically across another neighbourhood. A beautiful compromise, really.
One day in Paris with kids will never be enough to see everything. But that is not the point. If everyone ends the day happy, full, a little tired and already talking about coming back, you have done very well indeed.
